Shaping a Winning Strategy

We developed a new strategy for a football league in the Middle East, aimed at supporting national football aspirations and ensuring sustainable success.  

The challenge…

We were engaged to support a top league on developing a winning strategy for the very first time.

Key objectives included the design of an updated governance model, syndicating the strategy with stakeholders, building capabilities, and assessing new commercial opportunities.

The league also aimed to position itself among the top leagues regionally and internationally.

The approach…

There were several stages to this project.

First, we conducted interviews with stakeholders and leveraged existing studies to develop a baseline understanding for the league.

Next, we benchmarked over 30 leagues to inform our strategic pillars and best practices. This enabled us to define a clear framework. We then outlined a new operating model aligned with best practices.

Further steps we took included financial modelling to predict revenues and revising the league’s bylaws in line with the new strategy.

The impact…

We developed a new strategy based on a clear vision and mission, and ensured stakeholder buy-in. This will allow for positive transformation to occur in the long-term.

Our knowledge of best-in-practice allowed us to revise the governance model and update the organisational structure, introducing clearly defined roles.

Finally, we successfully led Request for Proposal cycles for sponsorship and broadcasting partners.

Our work has enabled the league to progress in its goal of positioning itself as a top league across the globe.
