Design of a first-class approach for the registration of players in England.

The FA is accountable for the player registrations service which has had a poor reputation in recent years, causing financial and operational risks. As a result, The FA recognised the need to re-design the currently manual and fragmented process.

We designed a new player registration process that is ‘future proofed’ and can register players more efficiently, effectively and in a timely manner. Furthermore, we created a clear mandate for change following a positive transfer window.

We also highlighted the critical importance of the function and for the first time provided a deep understanding of how the function works and what is required to deliver an improved service to Clubs.

I have been really pleased how everyone from our respective organisations worked as a team to develop an excellent/clear set of recommendations.

Our approach

We performed a detailed diagnostic of the current situation including process analysis and reviewed best practice of systems and other FAs (e.g. German, Dutch)

We also conducted a highly consultative process by interviewing 50+ stakeholders in Leagues and Clubs and by continuously engaging the FA project team throughout the process.
