Before joining Portas, Sergio worked for Italian professional football clubs F.C. Internazionale Milano and Venezia Football Club, leading the clubs’ youth academies in the US. He also worked in the public sector for the Government of the Basque Country in Spain.
Sergio holds an MBA from Nova Southeastern University and a Bachelor's in Public Relations and Advertising from Universita' IULM. He played for Inter and AC Parma affiliated youth academies and in the Under 21 Italian Futsal National league.
