Foundations of Portas

Establishment

Portas was founded with a mission to "Transform the world through sport.".

This vision was inspired by our founder's pivotal support for the 2005 bid for the London 2012 Olympics & Paralympics and the creation of the games' legacy strategy aimed at "inspiring a generation.".

Recognising a gap for high-quality management consultancy in the sports sector, Portas was created to offer expert, value-for-money advice and ongoing support to senior leaders.

Our approach combined a fun and exciting work environment with a developmental culture that is truly caring, all while adhering to the highest professional standards and integrity.

Our orange and blue branding and ripple logo were established to represent our unique, people-centric culture at the heart of a pioneering sports consultancy.

2007

2007-2009: Beginning of Global Expansion

Portas initiated its early expansion by partnering with corporate clients and various federations. This phase marked a significant milestone as the company embarked on its first international project. This venture not only broadened its geographical reach but also enhanced its reputation in the global market. By establishing international presence, Portas demonstrated its capability to manage and execute international projects, paving the way for further global opportunities

2010

2010-2012: Diversification

Portas expanded its portfolio by branching out into different sports such as tennis, golf, and motorsport, and in growing sectors including media. This diversification allowed the company to tap into new markets and leverage its expertise across new domains. It opened opportunities for innovation and collaboration within a dynamic and fast-paced industry and set the foundation for geographic expansion.

2013

2013-2014: Growth in International Reach

Portas expanded its operations into Brazil, motivated by projects aimed at preparing the country for the Rio Olympics and beyond. This strategic move allowed the company to establish a presence in the region and contribute to the growing sports market. By engaging in these projects, Portas showcased existing IP and knowledge, further developed its expertise and strengthened its global footprint and reputation.

2015

2015: Middle East Milestones

Portas began its venture into the Middle East in early 2015 with the formulation of a National Participation Strategy for Saudi Arabia. This groundbreaking and impactful project paved the way for further visionary initiatives and programmes, including the development of a comprehensive Women's Sport Strategy for the Kingdom. Portas also played a crucial role in crafting the sport strategy that became an integral part of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030. 2016

2016-2018: Expanding Horizons

Portas' international operations grew swiftly, with teams deployed in Mauritius, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Dubai. These teams engaged in a wide array of projects, ranging from the formulation of national sports policies and grassroots strategies to the development of elite sports programmes and the organisation of major events. This rapid expansion not only demonstrated the company’s versatility and expertise across different regions but also underscored its commitment to fostering sports development at all levels

2019

2019-2023: Formation of Portas Group

This period of global expansion culminated in the establishment of Portas Group. Between 2019 and 2023, we successfully set up offices and business operations in key locations such as Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Singapore, Abu Dhabi, and Tokyo. This strategic growth not only enhanced our international presence but also allowed us to better serve our clients across different regions. By establishing a strong foothold in these major cities, Portas Group positioned itself as a leading player in the global sports industry, capable of delivering comprehensive solutions and driving innovation worldwide.
